Donkey milk from the Azores

Mary, Amina, Máša, Sára and Meggie – these are our donkey girls from Těchonice. And they are also one of the reasons why we decided to include donkey milk in our lavender cosmetics.

We learnt about the use of donkey milk in cosmetics during our trips to France. And thanks to its great characteristics we did not hesitate. Its high content of vitamins, neutral scent, minimum content of fat and low content of allergens makes it an ideal counterpart of lavender.

It is not easy to prepare the milk for the use in cosmetics and in Těchonice it would not be possible. Therefore, we had to look elswhere and luckily, we came across amazing farmers from islands far away in the Atlantic Ocean – the Azores.

It is the milk of the Azorean donkeys that you can find in Manon. Local pastures are, among others, a great source of omega-3 and -6 unsaturated fatty acids thanks to the rainy weather and fertile soil with volcanic subsurface. These favourable conditions, careful breeding, large pastures and special milk processing ensure the highest quality of the donkey milk.

Milk processing

To incorporate the donkey milk in the cosmetics, it needs to be dried first. And the best way to do it is lyophilization (freeze-drying). The milk is frozen and the water is sublimed from it. After this process it is ready to be used in Manon along with lavender.
